This beautiful ceramic majolica-style pitcher depicts a Koi fish, a common motif in Asian art, with colorful glaze. These pitchers are commonly called "gurgle pots" or "glug jugs" due to the gurgling noise it makes when pouring liquids. The majolica- style is characterized by tin- glazed earthenware and painted decoration. Originally designed in 1870 in Staffordshire, England by Thomas Forester & Sons, the gurgling water jug has become quite popular amongst collectors. Dartmouth Pottery popularized the fish design until Wade Ceramics acquired the mold after they closed their doors in 2002. Measures 8" tall x 7" wide.
