Wonderful antique handmade primitive salt glaze stoneware pottery jug. Origin likely from Pennsylvania or New York. Very old jug in great condition. The jug features a strap handle. Measures 9" tall x 5" wide. These jugs were commonly used in the 1800s for transporting and storing liquids such as cider, milk, spirits, liquor, and water. These jugs symbolize a significant part of American folk art. The lack of a maker's mark is common of utilitarian pottery of this era. The variations in color and glazing are due to the methods used during this time period. This is a very nice jug with beautiful coloring.
